Centrifuge Balancing
Precise tube balancing to ensure safe centrifuge operation.
Application Overview
Centrifuge balancing is a critical step to ensure safe and reliable centrifugation. Before centrifugation, tubes must be distributed in a way that opposing buckets or inserts have approximately equal weight. Manual balancing is often time-consuming and prone to calculation or placement errors.
For automated balancing, the user places a rack containing the tubes to be centrifuged into the Lab-Bot. Each tube is individually weighed and then assigned to a defined centrifuge insert or bucket. The system distributes tubes sequentially, ensuring that opposing positions are balanced as accurately as possible based on measured weight.
If required, additional balancing tubes can be inserted automatically to compensate for residual weight differences. This ensures optimal mass distribution prior to centrifugation.
Placement of the prepared inserts or buckets into the centrifuge itself can be performed manually by the operator or handled by an external robotic system, allowing seamless integration into broader laboratory automation workflows.
